Massillon Competition

This Saturday is the competition in Massillon, OH. I so wanted to chaperone this competition (especially since it's 4 hours from home and I don't know how I'd manage it otherwise financially). I asked the person in charge of the chaperones a week or two ago about that possibility and was met with a laugh and a comment that yeah, EVERYONE wants to chaperone this one.

No call to chaperone this Saturday. Okay. Got it.

I'll suck it up and go on. I get that I am not able to do much at the moment to help with sewing flags or much else. I know that I'm a newbie to this...it is my daughter's freshman year. I do what I am able to help on the away games that are close to home. I guess I have to pay my dues just like everyone else.

Now to scrape up the gas/food money to drive 4 hours to the competition and 4 hours back, alone, because I will find a way to be there for my kid. I just don't know how that's going to happen right now.

ETA: Just received a recorded message from the marching band director...seems there are charter bus seats available for $25 a pop. I called the person in charge and secured a seat. Even with the bus fare and the day pass for admission to the event ($30) it's still a savings over driving. Gas ain't cheap, ya know? So, I'm going. Not feeling a whole lotta love from a few other mom's (not exactly sure why - they just seem cold and condescending. Maybe they are having stuff going on in their lives right now. It couldn't possibly be personal, they don't know me!), so it may be a very long and fairly lonely day. That's alright, I'm going there in support of my daughter, not to socialize particularly. At least I know a couple of the moms who are very nice will be there, so I won't totally feel like an outcast.
